About me...

THE BACKSTORY: I am a Boston-based athlete with a passion for running and inspiring others through fitness. Though running has become a big part of my adult life, as a child, I competed in just about every other sport, including figure skating, ballet, softball, soccer and lacrosse. In 2005, I was recruited to play Division III Lacrosse at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine as a midfielder, where, in hindsight, I ran quite a few miles in a game, but never considered running track or cross country. I ran charity 5Ks and my annual 10K, Joan Benoit Samuelson's Beach to Beacon race in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, but never considered a half or full marathon until one 5K race, Joanie ran up beside me on a big hill, and said to me, "You're sandbagging it! Run FASTER." So, I huffed and puffed up the hill, praying I could keep up with her until the end, and I did - finishing with her. She told me I should try running a marathon, and so, I did. When I graduated from college in 2009, I moved to Boston, and eager to meet new friends, I decided to check "running a marathon" off my bucket list by joining the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team to run the 2010 Boston Marathon. One and done I thought - until I crossed the finish line with a "Boston Qualifier" time of 3:26 and the rest is history. I fell in love with the sport. And I met the love of my life (now husband, Ian Nurse) because of this sport!

PRESENT DAY: I met my husband in May 2012 at a summer race series 5K - an accomplished runner with a marathon PR of 2:25, I was in awe. We started running together, and with his patience and coaching I went from a 3:21 marathon (April 2012) to a 3:05 marathon (October 2012). In 2013, I ran a 2:59 at Boston, and joined the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) soon after. Subsequently, I ran a 2:56, 2:54, 2:53 2:46, and 2:40. I have been a member of the B.A.A. Women's Racing Team, Lululemon Run Ambassador, Captain and coach for Heartbreak Hill Running Company and recently became a professional athlete for Adidas. I have completed 20 marathons, qualifying for 2 Olympic Marathon Trials (2016, 2020). In February 2016, I ran in the Olympic Trials in LA, and came in 62nd female with a time of 2:49 is sweltering conditions. After that experience, I knew I needed to make a career change, leaving my job as a full-time clinical social worker to pursue my dream of a fitness-focused life. In July 2016, I completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, with the encouragement of my friend and teacher, Goldie Graham. Since then, I have been coaching runners in the 5K to marathon distance, teaching yoga for athletes classes, and working towards my new goal of a sub-2:40 marathon as a mother to an active toddler, and a busy lifestyle!
